St Patrick’s Day Guide

Your Guide To Everything That Is Happening In Dublin City This St Patrick’s Day!

It is that time of year again to whip out your green jumper and face paint to celebrate all things Irish! St Patrick’s Day is one of the biggest celebrations in Ireland and there are so many things to do on the day as well as leading up to it. I have picked out just a few of the most exciting things that will be happening around the city as well as some of my favourite spots to celebrate. A warning in advance, in the lead-up to St Patrick’s Day almost everywhere is going to be extremely busy so just be prepared for lots of crowds.

Events

St Patrick’s Day Parade

The classic Dublin City St Patrick’s Day parade is back again for another year with acts from all across the country coming out as well as from America and beyond. This year’s theme is all about embracing one another, with the theme of ONE. The Parade will be taking place from 12:00 to 14:00 on St Patrick’s Day.

Me Auld Flower Festival

This is a new event taking place in the historic Fruit & Veg Market in Dublin City. This event is about all things food by bringing together Ireland’s contemporary food and drink scene. You will be given the chance to dip into some delicious food and drinks from some of the best chefs, restaurants and distilleries in the country. The event takes place across 3 days with tickets ranging from €22. You can find more information on their website - https://www.meauldflower.com/tickets

Festival Quarter

The National Museum Of Ireland, Collins Barracks will again be transformed into a magical day-to-night festival from the 16th to the 18th of march to celebrate all things Irish. There will be plenty of activities and events going on with all daytime activities being free. Activities will include a mini funfair, performance spaces and an Irish food and craft Village. At night the festival will have stunning light decor and amazing performances from some of Ireland’s top musicians.

The Big Little Treasure Hunt

For both adults and children, The Little Museum Of Dublin will be holding a treasure hunt which takes you on an adventure through time and space. Once you sign in at the museum you will be given a map which will guide you around St Stephens Green hunting for clues. This is a paid event so be sure to check out the link below for some more information.

Harbour2Harbour

This 26km walking challenge is in aid of Aware. You have the option of starting at either Howth Harbour or Dun Laoghaire Harbour and ending at the other. The walk will take you along Dublin’s most scenic coastline. The event is aimed at all fitness levels and there will be halfway stops along the way.

Temple Bar

One of the most popular spots to spend the St Patrick’s Day Weekend. Temple Bar is a cobbled stone street in the heart of Dublin City. Along the street, you will find many events going on here with plenty of pubs hosting live folk music as well as some local markets. As well as it being the most popular spot to celebrate St Patrick’s Day it can also be the busiest spot so, if you are planning on coming here be prepared for a very crowded area.

The Guinness Storehouse

One of the most popular attractions in Ireland and for a good reason. This brewery tells you the tale of one of Ireland’s most iconic beers. As well as many exhibits you of course will have the chance to get yourself a pint of Guinness either in the tasting room or by pouring it yourself. The best part of the experience has to be the 360 views from the rooftop bar of the surrounding city. Every year to celebrate St Patrick’s Day the storehouse has a four-day celebration with plenty of live music, food and drink. Just like Temple Bar it is the busiest day of the year for these spots so be prepared for a lot of people.

If you are looking to avoid heading into the city to celebrate there are plenty of more activities and events happening all over the country including the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Bray as well as plenty of pubs with local music and celebrations.
